“You can’t do that.” Ansel shouted. “You nearly took my head off.”

Greer flashed a wry smile across his face. “There is nothing illegal about it. Back up if you can’t take it.”

Ansel did not like being a target every time that Greer had a chance to make a winning shot. In his mind, it wasn’t good sportsmanship. He vowed revenge if Greer did not stop attacking him unnecessarily.

At the break for the court change, Greer grabbed his copy of The Rules of Tennis and thumbed quickly through the text. There was no mention of directing the ball in the direction of any player or any rules prohibiting it.

When they returned to the court, you could cut the tension with a knife. Once again Ansel took an aggressive position opposite Greer, hoping to make a quick point and secure the game.

Play continued at a normal pace until Ansel’s partner Duncan returned a weak lob directly in line with Greer’s forehand. Greer wasted no time in jumping on the weak shot and hammering a blistering forehand right at Ansel’s midsection. Ansel tried to avoid the rocketing yellow sphere but could not react fast enough. As he turned his body, he placed himself in a vulnerable position. The ball, traveling at over one hundred miles per hour, hit Ansel squarely in the gonads. He…
