The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club announced today it is adding Pickleball to its name.

The game has skyrocketed in popularity, particularly amongst seniors, which leads to an entirely new market to attract the money of rich white folk.

Founded in 1868 the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC) has become the site of the famous Wimbledon Tennis Championships. While Croquet still exists at Wimbledon Village, its importance has faded, leaving only players no longer able to play the more demanding sport of tennis.

Often cited as a sport created for the less physically adept, Pickleball has become a haven for old washed-up tennis players. One still competent tennis player I know was quoted as saying, “Pickleball is where old tennis players go to die.”

With up-and-coming tennis stars like Iga Swiatek and Carlos Alcaraz soon to be claiming the titles of G.O.A.T., older fans, the ones with the old money, need to have a place where they can still heap mountains of adoration on the retired players, they grew up watching.
